Photographic Collection of Food & Memories (pt. 1)

by Kaitlyn Chow

Food is what makes me happy. Food is what gives us fuel to survive. And not to mention, food includes happy, sad, sentimental, and joyful memories. Because of my love for food, I have started taking photographic and aesthetic photos of foods (known as food photography) I make and posting them on my Instagram account @_thefoodaddict._. All photos were taken on my cell phone (Samsung Galaxy S9). This photographic collection includes my favorite photos, along with the memories associated with each one.

August 22, 2020: I woke up early this bright summer morning to prepare the classic family breakfast: brioche French toast. The evening before, I had spent hours making the brioche bread for this meal. It took forever and was very tasking, but it was all worth it because the concoction of syrup, berries, and the fluffy bread created probably one of the best things that I've ever tasted.

August 31, 2020: A few days before, I had been scrolling through recipe blogs and adding probably every single recipe to my Pinterest board. One of those recipes was these gooey blondies. I’d never had blondies before, so I decided to make these that day. However, as amazing as these blondies might look, they were actually way underbaked; in the end, I sadly had to throw them out.

September 7, 2020: Oh my — this chicken noodle soup was so good. I had never made chicken noodle soup before, but this literally tasted exactly like Panera’s. I don’t remember much about this day, but all I can remember is that it was delicious.

August 24, 2020: Throughout the summer, I was finally able to recognize my obsession with pancakes. Every single day, I woke up and got out of bed just to eat pancakes. This morning’s breakfast consisted of a huge stack of blueberry pancakes made from scratch, each bite consisting of sweetness from the syrup, a bit of tartness from the blueberries, and pure fluffiness from the pancakes. It was merely magical.

October 3, 2020: It was a Saturday morning, and I woke up early just to make these pumpkin scones for a church picnic. I was in a pumpkin phase, making pumpkin-flavored breads, cupcakes, pancakes, oatmeal, literally everything, so I decided to make some pumpkin scones that day. Unfortunately, though, a lot of people don’t like pumpkin for some reason, so I sadly had to force people to eat them.

September 15, 2020: That morning, I realized how I had never made a grilled cheese sandwich a single time in my life (not that I’ve lived a long time anyway). So, I decided to make one during lunch break, and surprisingly, it turned out to be pretty good!

September 16, 2020: All I remember from this day was that I had a headache, but because of my dedication to creating some food content for my food Instagram account, I forced myself to make some pumpkin bread (this was the beginning of my pumpkin obsession phase). I was tired and moody, yet I ultimately got to eat such delicious pumpkin bread. I guess it was all worth it.
