Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, students all over the world have adapted to virtual learning. Without the extra hassle of waking up early for the bus and driving to in-person extracurricular activities, many students are now left with loads of extra time. How are Biotechers spending this time, and how does this compare to the rest of the world?

In BTHS, many students have commented that they find it difficult to be productive during this time and often spend the majority of their days sleeping or using social media. One student said, “I spent my days watching YouTube, since the pandemic really made it hard to be self-motivated and productive.” On the other hand, a fair amount of students have tuned into their artistic side by baking, drawing, dancing, reading, writing, and watching anime. A majority of BTHS students have both delved deeper into their previous hobbies and adopted new hobbies. However, out of the two options, BTHS students were more likely to delve deeper into their previous hobbies than adopt a new one.

After school started and clubs adapted to the virtual setting as well, BTHS students commented that they would like to see more artistic initiatives such as “virtual performances” and “talking to peers activities.” These results might mean A&E adopts biweekly drawing classes and the class councils offer more bonding activities.

Similarly, students across the globe are seeing an increase in artistic inspiration as self-reflection surges mid-pandemic. If you are looking for more activities to be involved in, USA Today recommends completing a puzzle, starting a journal, learning a foreign language, or watching movies [2]. There seems to be a relationship between self care and art for BTHS students and people worldwide. Regardless of what activities you enjoy doing, coronavirus has allowed students to explore new activities or delve deeper into hobbies.
