SOS Earth Day Meeting

 by Khushi Faldu

What has Covid- 19 taught us about the Earth? For tens of years, we have had a broken relationship with nature. There is deforestation, exploitation, land abuse, overproduction, overconsumption, and much more. Every time you are in a car, you are releasing pollution. In the meeting, everyone calculated their carbon footprint- the amount of carbon we contribute to the atmosphere just by living our life.

Luckily, there are ways to reduce our carbon footprint. We can drive less by carpooling, biking, or walking; eat less meat by trying meatless Mondays or becoming vegan; reduce food waste by eating leftovers or composting food scraps; or switch to reusable items like masks, water bottles, and straws. We can reduce the use of plastic water bottles by switching to reusable water bottles. It can save money and have a positive impact on your health. Plastic water bottles do not decompose, so they stay in landfills and oceans forever. You can add earth friendly web extensions, join Earth Day conferences, and sign petitions! Celebrate Earth Day by upcycling, hiking, annual steam cleanup, and more. By taking a picture, you can earn service hours!
