A Farewell to Ms. Kelterborn From GSA

 by Aleicia Zhu

At Biotechnology High School, Ms. Kelterborn is a dedicated English teacher. However, to the members of GSA, she is even more than that. Ms. Kelterborn has been the club advisor from its inception to its formalization as an official club. According to Greyson Feather, co-president of GSA, “Before GSA even existed Ms. Kelterborn was helping us. She helped students struggling with their identities.” Similarly, Isabelle Papa, the GSA secretary, notes that “LBGT content was a big thing in the classroom, and she made a more inclusive curriculum. She was always trying to share those things with us as well.” As club advisor, Ms. Kelterborn has facilitated every discussion and debate while letting students flourish, and it could not have reached its status without her.

Thus, GSA will miss her presence. In September of the 2020-2021 school year, Ms. Kelterborn assumed a position at Communications High School. Ms. Kelterborn has decided to teach at a more arts-focused school. It was a difficult decision, and according to Ms. Mulvaney, “Ms. Kelterborn was very sad to lose this group. This was one of the main reasons she was hesitant to leave Biotech.” Nonetheless, Ms. Kelterborn determined what was best for her. After her time at Communications, she hopes to pursue art education. To thank her for her role in GSA, the members were able to give her one last, final meeting in August.

For the 2020-2021 school year, GSA has warmly welcomed Ms. Mulvaney and Ms. Amster as their advisors. GSA is sure to survive and thrive under their guidance.
